Don’t Be Afraid

What are you afraid of?  Snakes, scary movies, flying? You may have heard me on the show recently talking about the new study that revealed more Americans are scared of clowns than terrorism and dying… but the top fear is a corrupt government.

Many people are living in debilitating fear of the results of the Presidential election coming up next week. In a strange way, fear can make us feel like we’re doing something, like all those hours spent with our stomach twisted in knots gives us some type of control over what is making us afraid.

But as followers of Jesus, aren’t we called NOT to be afraid? Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” Did you know, you can find at least 80 verses in the Bible that use the words “fear not”?  Probably because Jesus, being fully man and fully God, got a front-row view as to just how much anxiety we silly humans live with every day.  Heck, his own mom was so stressed that they ran out of wine at a wedding, she convinced Jesus to do his first miracle.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but, not enough wine is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Yet Jesus responded to his mother with love, compassion and caring.

So cast all your cares on Him when it comes to this election.  Remember that God is with us and will never leave us no matter what happens in the world around us.  Jesus’ own words to his disciples in Luke 12 give us comfort:  “Do not worry about your life…Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

See you on November 9th!  ; )

With love,
Taylor
