Sharpie Reminders

IMG_3061-e1468411974821-768x1024Jason Roy, lead singer of Building 429, shared a backstage story at Atlanta Fest with me. Just above the thumb on his right hand was the word ‘unashamed’ written in black sharpie. On his left hand, he had four names written just below his knuckles. These names were people he told me he’d pray for, also noting that the ‘unashamed’ was a reminder to himself that he is ‘enough.’ He shared this information from a very raw place, as a man that is humbly yet openly dealing with his brokenness.

On stage we see him as a seasoned performer, sharply sharing messages like “nothing is impossible with God.” Out of the speakers, he brings a great melody, with a rocking reminder that with God “we won’t be shaken.” The close up look at this lead singer shows the son of a military man, a husband and father, sharing his faith and his scars openly, beautifully and with a sharpie. Maybe writing a word on your hand could be helpful frequent reminder, too. And if you have a prayer request let me know, I’d love to write you on my hand.
