Rocks don’t change people’s lives…Jesus does

I just got back from a trip to Israel with my church.  The archaeological evidence for our Christian faith is overwhelming.

It was really cool because one day we were at the steps of the temple mount – the actual rock stairs that Jesus walked up when he went into the temple. I kept thinking, “wow, Jesus may have stepped right here where I’m standing now!’

The next day became even more moving for me as we walked the Via Dolorosa.  Our tour guide explained that the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem have changed significantly over the past 2000 years, so the church was unsure of the actual path Jesus walked as he suffered while carrying his cross.

The Via Dolorosa, unlike the actual temple stairs, was a representative path of Christ’s sufferings, not necessarily the “actual” rocks he stepped upon.  The Via Dolorosa ends at The Church of The Holy Sepulchre, again archaeologically significant, ironically, not for what stands but for what was torn down over and over again.
By doing so, the forces trying to wipe out the Christian Gospel, forever cemented it in history.

Our tour guide, is a celebrated archaeologist himself, summed it up:  “Rocks don’t change people’s lives…Jesus does.”
