A Legacy of Faith and Love

A Legacy of Faith and Love

As I write this, my dad is in the hospital. He was admitted two days ago.  What started as a UTI has now morphed into what doctors are calling “a blood infection.”  Of course, I had to look it up on “Dr. Google” and it scared me to death.  See, my dad has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and he’s getting on in years so any kind of infection like this can be really scary.

I’m scared, worried, concerned.  My mom and dad on the other hand, well, mostly the opposite.  I just got off the phone with mom.  She seemed calm even though she’s tired. She even quoted Romans 8:28 –  “All things work together for good.”  She refuses to leave dad’s side other than short breaks because, in his weakened state, the teeny bit of dexterity he had left in his fingers after MS is gone and he can’t hit the nurse “call button” himself.  Is that true love or what?

She said dad has been sharing his love for Jesus with all the nurses at the hospital and making sure they know Him too. He can’t pass up a chance like this to share his faith. (Ironically all his nurses so far are really strong Christians.)  She also said dad keeps telling the story over and over to anyone who will listen about how all 5 of his daughters made it home at the same time (for the first time in many years) in honor of his Birthday.

That’s the legacy my parents are leaving their family – a legacy of sacrificial, unconditional love and a legacy of strong faith, and trust in His plan. I’m humbled to have such fantastic parents. What a gift.

Meanwhile, this gal is going to go read Psalm 56:3 again. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”  God, my dad is in your Hands. I’m scared. Please help me to trust you.

With love,
