There’s Power in the name of Jesus

There’s Power in the name of Jesus…we play and sing so many songs about this fact.  We trust in Jesus to save our souls…then why is it so hard to trust Him when we face hardships and just life in general?

Hi it’s Parks Stamper.  I think Louie Giglio in his new book, Goliath Must Fall, nails it.  He says, “Most of us follow a pattern where, when we feel vulnerable to attack, it makes us feel weak.  This weakness, in turn, compels us to cover up and cope.”  Hmmm, sounds alot like me…I want everything wrapped up and fixed like a 30 minute TV plot!  When this doesn’t happen, I feel vulnerable often cope by putting on armor that doesn’t quite fit.

When David went to face Goliath, King Saul who was a big, burly, fighter guy, wanted to help out and cover David in his own armor.  It was huge and clunky.  David couldn’t even walk well in it.  The armor didn’t fit.  You know the rest of the story, David refused the armor, showed up looking very vulnerable with only a sling, a stone but with the power of God, and he took the giant down.

Instead of trying to cover up our vulnerability and weakness in ill-fitting armor, let us be encouraged that His strength is perfected in our weakness.
