Social Distancing and Jesus
Things look so different now from just 2 months ago, don’t they? We are having to stay 6 feet apart, go only one way down the grocery aisle, wear masks, work from home, and attend church online. Yet, some things are very much the same – just amplified.
A friend asked me when all the COVID-19 precautions started, how it had changed the prayer requests I get here at The Fish Atlanta. The short answer is…it hasn’t. Some families and marriages are still struggling. People battling addiction and illness are still battling. Loss of finances, housing, and living situations are still happening. These things are still on the top of listeners’ minds only amplified by the fear of the virus and the need of social distancing.
That’s the bad news, but you know what the really, Good News is…? Jesus is still the same. He doesn’t social distance! He is still as close as you want Him to be. He has conquered all sin, all death, and yes, even this virus. So our challenge becomes how do we share this Hope from a distance? I’m heartened by stories of old friends reconnecting through technology, families coming together again around the dinner table, and acts of kindness from afar. All of these are opportunities for us to share the very “non-socially distant” Jesus!
