Positive is possible
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8. I hope this verse provides a sense of calm, the world is a little tossed up right now.
Over the weekend I took a virtual exercise class with my friend Brooke, she lives on a farm in Virginia. I asked how her community was coping with the pandemic, she said “they’re not,” and that made her nervous. Yet, she stays positive and upbeat for her three daughters. Maggie, a teacher friend from Smyrna, shares that every day it’s a flip-flop with her students. Keeping track of remote learning and classroom days plus social distancing is exhausting. She stays hopeful, knowing she can set a good example. God is for them, so good for them.
From my perspective, whether we are inside or outside of the Perimeter we sit in an endless fog of wondering what will shut down next. Friends are testing positive with and without COVID-19 symptoms, and our previous sentiment of “it’s Fall y’all” is now “where is your face mask?!” The second wave is coming, or will this be the third? I can’t keep up.
Here’s something really crazy: my house was fully decorated for Christmas as of November 1st (and all my tree lights worked). Christmas means comfort and joy, and I say: bring all you’ve got! There’s plenty of cheerful holiday inspiration on 104.7 The Fish too, music really sets the tone for our day-to-day. A life filled with comfort and joy sounds great, in or out of a pandemic.
With so many mixed messages coming at us that offer fear, confusion, and disappointment, it’s so valuable to fill yourself, your car, your kitchen with truth. God is not a God of confusion or fear or disappointment. He is our Maker, Creator our Healing Father, The Prince of Peace.
I want to say I’ll dearly miss going to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and seeing The Rockettes, but instead, I’ll start a watch party. On the other hand, I also really wish to be with my brother and sister this Christmas. We lost our mother this past June. But, a Zoom Christmas it is! I’ve already got the scavenger hunt planned.
Let’s make a positive out of anything we can. Deal?! Here’s another: it will be a warmer New Years Eve without people freezing in Times Square. 🙂
Hang in, hang on, and know you are so loved!
