God’s Plan
Going to high school back in Corvallis, Oregon, I remember the girls I knew and went to school with. They all seem to have a solid plan for their future. Many of them were looking forward to starting their own families after they met the right guy. They seemed to know what career direction they wanted to pursue in college as well. I had no plans or even dreams of starting a family. My plan was to remain single and keep dating. My family expected me to go to college and select a major. I selected art since I had won several awards throughout my life at that time.
In college, a professor expected me to cut little squares in exact dimensions with an X-Acto blade. My squares were never the exact right size, and this began my decline in grades. This professor demanded left brained perfection. I was too much of a right brainer perhaps…but art was not in the cards for me.
OK, so what now I thought? Radio is something I had always had a passion for. I grew up listening to the mega DJs in Boston radio and always felt a calling in that direction. I never thought about a career in radio since I had always been a quiet and shy kind of person. The first quality you don’t expect in radio personalities is shyness.
After my art major future fizzled away, just for the fun of it, I called a local radio station and simply asked the man who answered the phone about what types of careers were available for women in radio. To my shock, he turned out to be the general manager of the station and told me to come in and he would hire me to do commercials!! Really? Me? NO WAY! God opened that door in my life. It is something I would have never imagined myself being able to pursue. I have been at it ever since.
He also selected for me the man of my dreams and provided me with the three boys I have now. I had NO IDEA how much happiness they all could bring me. He did.
We think we have all the answers and even when we don’t, if we follow the path our loving and Holy God puts before us, we soon will experience all the joy and Blessings that only He can provide!
” ‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ “—Jeremiah 29:11, New International Version.
