FREEDOM IN CHRIST – Penny Faulkner
As we celebrate Independence Day in the United States, we are reminded of the freedoms that our nation was founded upon. But as Christians, we know that there is a deeper, more profound freedom that we were meant to experience — the freedom found only in Christ. This freedom is not limited to geographical location or government structures but is a spiritual gift and reality that transcends all earthly and temporal boundaries. It is the freedom to live life as God intended, free from the chains of sin and guilt, to serve Him, and to trust Him and love Him completely without fear or hesitation.
Freedom in Christ is not just a theoretical concept but a tangible reality that can be experienced by anyone who places their faith in Jesus. When we come to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are given the gift of eternal life and, with it, the freedom to live life on His terms. This means being freed from the tyranny of our sin nature, and being empowered to live a life that honors God and brings glory to Him. It means being free to love and serve others without expectation of reward or recognition and being free to learn to love ourselves so that we can truly love God and love others.
Let us not forget our greater freedom in Christ as we celebrate Independence Day with friends and family. Let us remember that our true citizenship is not of this world but of heaven and that our ultimate freedom is not from human governments or systems but from the slavery of sin and the tyranny of our own flesh. May we rejoice in this freedom today, and may we continue to live out our lives as ambassadors of Christ, proclaiming His message of freedom to a world that desperately needs it.
