Empty Shelves Bring Hope
Being quarantined has forced us to use this time to look within and deeply contemplate, and live with a new daily normal. Perhaps, the most unexpected, and challenging change: the lack of available toilet paper. Toilet paper is bulky and takes up a lot of shelf space, once it’s gone the shelves look desolate. Then, seeing empty shelves put people in a panic mode.
The same is true for hair dye, sugar, flour, and yeast, all missing, all purchased. Seeing shelves emptied of these items means people are seeking comfort by baking, touching up their hair color, and trimming their own bangs. The misfortune of trimming one’s bangs is a trending topic I am glad to not be apart of.
Another item that has flown sold out in droves: Bibles. The Coronavirus outbreak brought record Bible purchases reports Fox News. Publishing companies like Tyndale House that sell Bibles have reported an increase in purchases in recent weeks. To me, this says that people are looking for hope. In the book of Isaiah, we are encouraged by this truth.
“But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 | NIV
Some people psychologically respond to scarcity. God promises to give us everything we need, and we see it in this verse: strength, rest, and hope. Every song played on 104.7 The Fish offers the same to you. It’s a privilege to be serving Atlanta with constant encouragement during such a time as this. Do you have a quarantine story? I’d love to hear it I’m @Bethbacall or Beth@thefishatlanta.com
