Choose Joy
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!” Psalm 30: 11-12
If you’ve ever lost someone you love, you know grief is a journey. It takes so many twists and turns. You never know when something or someone will trigger a memory that suddenly has tears flowing down your face.
I’ve watched my mom on that journey, after saying goodbye to her husband of over 60 years. Being a widow and being on her own is completely foreign to her. She was a caregiver for my dad as he endured M.S. until the day he passed, never complaining.
Now I’m watching my mom’s faith in action once again, as she chooses joy each day, content in the knowledge that her husband is with His Savior and that she will see him again one day.
You can sum up my mom’s faith and personality by just observing her for one day: at her granddaughter Kalee’s recent wedding. I was in awe watching her choose joy. She caringly mended Kalee’s bridal gown when the rigors of pre-wedding photos caused a button to come loose. When the bride and groom were cutting the cake, she meticulously wiped frosting off Morgan’s tuxedo, fearful the frosting would transfer to Kalee’s dress. Then I watched in wonder as I witnessed my mom DANCING for the first time in my life. Filled with joy and celebrating Kalee and Morgan’s love. I’m so grateful for the legacy of faith my mom has shown us. She models putting our hope in Him every day.
With love,
